The Knotmeat story

Knotmeat was born from a collection of recipes devised by a meat-eater for a household containing a vegetarian. Eating meals as a family is important to us, yet we are all busy with work or school so it’s essential to have meals that are fairly simple to prepare and it makes life a lot easier if we all eat the same thing. The first recipe was Knot Fish Pie, devised as a parallel dish for our vegetarian family member for a dinner party where other guests were served a more conventional Fish Pie that was as true as possible to the original so she shared the same experiences of tastes, flavours and textures. The alternative was such a success that several people had both! The Knot concept then evolved to include Knot Beef Casserole, Knot Shepherds Pie and so on…until this site was born.

The recipes make use of the meat-free sources of protein that are commonly available in chilled and frozen sections of the supermarket. These are primarily marketed as healthy versions of their meat equivalents, rather than being aimed solely at the vegetarian market, and our challenge was to devise meals that gave a depth of flavour and texture that would please even committed carnivores. Never ones to knowingly under cater for the number of diners present, we tend to ensure that sufficient is made to leave enough for lunch the next day or to fill the freezer.

We have had huge fun refining and improving the recipes as Knotmeat developed and we hope you enjoy the results of our efforts.
